Bigg K vs Illmaculate (discussion)

Who won? Best battle of 2013? Does it rank in your top 10 or 20 of all time?

For me this battle stands out, and largely may be so good because there were none of the following:

- Forced or stupid name flips

- Forced or stupid associative wordplay.

I'm not at all saying name flips or associative wordplay aren't sick, or that the above two are the only ones who can't do it well...

... but literally every URL battle i've seen in the past year (with a few exceptions) has just been name flips and associative wordplay - and it's usually done horrible. Even vets like Rex... trying to do name flips with "cow" (for cal).

Agreed. Dope concept but definitely was pretty filler for a battle verse after the Rosanne Barr rebuttal.

The battle obviously features two well-matched opponents, but Ill Mac took it imo. What put him over the top were his rebuttals. The "bumblebee is capable of flight" sealed the coffin imo. K's verses were all dope as fuck, but he didn't have that WRC veteran battle experience to boost him up to the next level. Snappin' off of the top and seamlessly transitioning to the writtens type swag.

It was definitely the best battle of 2013. It doesn't really come close to any of the top 2012 battles, though. 2012, until proven otherwise, is the gold standard for battle rap. Verb vs Hitman, JC vs Chilla, Big T vs Tsu Surf, and Lux vs Calicoe all in one year was crazy.

Tbh I still watch it a ton...one of the few battles I can stand to sit through actually, haven't been watching many since BO4.

The more I watch it the more I think K took it...his first two were a lot more consistent and while illmac probably had a few schemes that top anything Bigg K spat (also more varied, rhyme patterns, more conceptual shit...hop on the pile of bodies that I leave behind me) he also had a few things that I thought were completely flat (this a shot in the face...etc.) Bigg K had haymakers start to end, I think Illmac took the third, which was Ks weakest round IMO.

Great battle. One of the few released lately with actual replay value. Tbh, it inspired me a lot to want to try again in the ring.

What stood out to me was, no heavy personal shit (no stalking facebook profiles), lots of mid round hilarity (you love my shit) and the lack of creating a fake beef/corny hype before hand. Excellent performance by both.

I kind of respect the opinion but don't at the same time. Can't see how it's close. Wasn't even Bigg K at his best writing wise & Illmac first was choppy to me at parts then the 3rd was filler-ish for a battle. Dope concept but lacked in between the initial rebuttal & the final few lines of any kind of punches/jokes/something to attack the opponent.

It was good but not anything too amazing in my book. I prefer QP vs Remy over that any day.

Yea, that whole shot in the face/shot in the dark/walk in the park was the worst part of the battle for me.

Yea definitely a nice battle. I liked both of their 2nd rounds & even Illmac gun bars were refreshing with the humor added to (til there's nuttin in the mag like the pages stick together). It just had too many dry spots for me whereas Chilla vs JC & QP vs Remy didn't. All four brought 3 great rounds each. Besides the grudge match feel of Bigg K vs Illmac, there was nothing too crazy about the overall battle to me.

Understandable. I been a huge Illmac fan since Scribble Jam and Brainstorm so that plays into it

Bigg K got the first 2 pretty clearly IMO, still giving Illmac that 3rd since it was K's weakest.

this was a really good style clash and i can completely understand why people gave the battle to Illmac - even though i gave the first 2 rounds to bigg k. also the flow of the battle was perfect as it didnt seem too long or short.

so YES, definitely would be in some sort of "rap battle list"

I feel the complete opposite way. I thought it was extremely corny on first watch and had Bigg K 3-0. The more I've watched it, the more I feel like the battle was pretty close even though Bigg K still got it, and Illmac's 3rd was at least creative. Not amazing and not his best 3rd round ever (vs Manaz he went crazy), but still dope. He put up a fight against somebody I thought he would get easily bodied by.

It's a top 5 battle of 2013.

Yea, I got Chilla vs JC way over both. I can see why someone would like Bigg K vs Illmac more than QP vs Remy though. Remy was the nicest I've seen him for 3 rounds, QP had crazy wordplay but his rounds weren't really direct. They could really apply to anyone which took away from the match.

My exact feelings. Remy was on point but QP's performance felt more like a novelty act than a dope battle round. Wordplay can be good and all but so much of it concentrated in one sitting is hard to get through

I like it.

Probably the battle I'm most proud of presentation wise

Really surprising to me how many people on here thought illmaculate won. I thought bigg k clearly took it.

OGBone probably likes in here/hair word play
I'm a illmac fan and I think illmac was fairly light and corny vs big k. Big k had good shit but I don't think this battle was any where near classic.

It's because it kind of doesn't make sense. He raps a whole round about what's gonna happen to Bigg K at the battle, but they're at the battle and none of that happened so it's kind of pointless and irrelevant.
