I miss the days when Illmac's delivery consisted of saying smooth shit in a very very smooth way.

I consider this a close battle. I love Illmac's sarcastic approach in the first and he had some dope shit in the second. fair game though if you think Madness killed it, he was hilarious. i wish he still battled.

Tbf who the fuck else would battle hollow and concieted or madness and dizaster on the same day imagine someone considered doing that shit now even with 1 minute rounds that would be considered career suicide

I remember when RM folks said that Diz murdered Illmac, until the footage came out. Illmac bodied Diz pretty badly here.

The car bed line was a premium

True. Illmac had a huge reputation back then. All of these guys are elite battle rappers on their day, mac was so confident back then.

At tat point I don't think he really understood or cared how dangerous a written battle could be.

They were promo battles back then, when judging really mattered. I assume he really treated them as such.

I think he cared about battles but he had little respect for fully written battles.

Says to Diz " I wouldn't know you were a threat if writtens weren't so openly accepted"

This was still the era were people were unsure about written battles. Illmac was still in scribble, WRC and spin the mic mode; hadn't made that transition to fully written rounds yet.

But yet so many written quotables. You are able to see his full potential:

This is probably my fav era of battle rap.

I remember noticing when Illmac got cut off at the end of his third ("you need to step up your quality if you wanna collab/ I didn't lose to you, your whole round was awfully bad"), it was a setup for the "comedy slash novelty act" line which he ended up using against The Saurus.

good catch

makes me think maybe he originally had that for Madness but didn't spit it for whatever reason, then wanted to spit it against Diz at the same event but didn't get it out again so he kept it for Pete. cause it doesn't really make that much sense to call Diz a comedy act, it would work better for Madness and also worked better for Saurus at the time.

also Illmac had another set of bars against Diz i'm almost certain was intended for Madness:

"how did we come to this madness, yo?
it's funny you're cracking jokes, but spit something that's factual
like how you're on my phone, riding my dick, like a month and a half ago"

he says the word madness and again it's about jokes

i always thought that was a rebuttal, to diz's "alright this is bout to be some madness...get it ? cuz he just got his ass ripped by madness???"

either way , this turned out to be a great thread
