Punchy, excellently produced, bass guitar heavy death? Sign me the fuck up.

One of my favorite solos in a long while too.

Just wanted to drop in and rub your faces in the fact that I saw Neurosis and Sleep on Friday night. Still can't hear very well but holy fuck it was worth it.

Some of these aren't traditional metal, but:

Tool
Soundgarden
Sleeptime Gorilla Museum
Pain of Salvation
Meshuggah
The Mars Volta (some of Bedlam is clearly metal as fuck)
Deftones
some Dream Theater (most of its pretentious shit)
King Crimson
Black Sabbath
Opeth
depending on your definitions, Nine Inch Nails
Rage Against The Machine

the majority of people would disagree with this, Lateralus is, at least the majority of people a much better, more cohesive album. Its certainly better-produced and is musically (read: technically) much more impressive.

Lateralus is much more repetitive and boring than aenima... Check out the pitchfork review of lateralus... They were Def too harsh but they hit the nail on the head of what's wrong with the album.

With prog rock, u gotta have better subtle dynamics... THE unfortunately named band ISIS does a much better job with their song writing than tool does in lateralus.

Aenima is better because they have beautiful prog songs like my favorite pushit and third eye while also having more straight forward rock songs like stinkfist and 46 n 2

Aenima is wayyyy better than the soul-less lateralus
@Triptych don't u think aenima shits on lateralus? (Tho schism is a great song)

Yup. Me and everyone I know who likes Tool too. I love Lateralus, one of my favorite albums don't get me wrong, but Ænima is miles ahead of it. Production is a little rawer, songs a little more direct and honest, and it's just got more of those "moments" you know? The breakdown in Pushit, the whole last half of Eulogy, the build up to the solo in Third Eye, damn. Much more exciting. Even the interlude tracks are better. It just carries more emotional and nostalgic weight with me, too.

For me it goes Ænima > Undertow > Lateralus > Opiate > but I didn't like 10,000 Days much.

Hmm...
1. Do you know what 'prog rock' is? It really doesn't sound like it. Pushit doesn't come close to prog rock.
2. Lateralus - repetitive? Okay. Okay. No. The distance between Disposition and Ticks and Leeches is much further than anything on Aenima (besides possibly Intermission but fuck that)
3. Pitchfork is a joke run by virgins that enjoy confirmation bias so i wouldn't really bandy them about unless you want to lose credibility.
4. You called Forty Six & Two a straight-forward rock song... it's objectively not. Ironically Pushit, comes close. So there's that....
4. Your opinions aren't objective. I've literally never heard a person IRL claim Aenima over Lateralus. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen or that it's 'better' but it does mean your experience isn't universal.

Additionally...
5. The last half of Eulogy is literally a succession of (i think six) outro's. Pretty fucking terrible songwriting there....I still enjoy it though.

Opinions are cool, but you guys are saying stuff that's objectively wrong.

Aenima is more accessible and i see how thats a good thing. Doesn't make it better at all.It still only tips about 50/50 They won Grammy's on both. Aenima outsold, but under-performed in the charts so it's obviously not their accessibility that gets them airplay. Its the cohesion and vision. Something sorely lacking in Aenima as an over-all piece of art. Lateralus, though, was their masterpiece by far in that regard... notwithstanding various opinions.

Bolded: Troll or embarrassing bullshit? Pick one. God i can't stand Tool fans.

I was a pretty big metalhead when I was 12-16 but I kind of went off it as I got older. Off the top my favourites were Pantera, Slipknot, Machinehead, Slayer & Sepultura. I still listen to them occasionally but most of the time I can't vibe to it.

No offence to anyone in this thread but I often see people say that battle rap fans are the worst group of fans they've come acrosss but metal heads definitely take that spot for me. Some of the most arrogant & narrow minded people I've met were metal heads.

Edit- Actually offence to @Chromium, he was exactly that kind of dickhead.

Thanks man. Lots of offense taken *finger guns*.
No, fuck off.
P.S for anyone that gives a shit - that entire post was a satire of Tool fans. Hence the final jab at hte bolded part of Abstrakt's post. Sorry that you can't read into nuanced presentation over a forum. BUt its par for the course. Im a big fan but fuck spending that much actual emotional energy on discussing it. Unless of course it was serious...... FUUUUUUUUCK That.
