[Flashback] - The Saurus vs Mac Lethal

This is the battle that got me into written style battles. Saw two names of previous Scribble winners and thought they were freestyle battling. With the killer rebuttals and the large amount of free styling that happened in this battle, I almost walked away thinking this WAS a freestyle battle.

This battle is an excellent example of what isn't necessarily seen alot in today's scene in one - a hybrid of frees and writtens, rebuttals, delivery, humor, crowd participation, hard lines and even some wordplay rolled into one.

Now see, I thought that originally because I hadn't watched a ton of Saurus in Scribble and WRC. After watching it though, it is insane. For example, in the 2nd round (30 seconds long) vs Real Deal, he quality rebuttals Real Deal three times.

Other than Eyedea (RIP), I think Saurus is one of the few who could pull that type of stuff off.

people just say that because of the rebuttals. it was mainly the source doing the robot oh so it makes complete sense that it was freestyle

how do you so definitively say yeah ? i know you've seen countless Saurus freestyle battles cause you've been posting since back in the day ... just watch
or many other Saurus battles where he rebuttals multiple lines through out the rounds & with almost impossible speed
hes one of the best freestylers on the planet if not the best & MAC was top 3 in early 2000's , but his rebuttals in that battle weren't even that complex or anything , def. doable with his skill level .. it was mainly Saurus goin ham .. and if they wrote it why would MAC agree to make Saurus have all the shine ?

and mac lethal?

round 1 rebuttal started with about 8 bars of the same 5 syllable rhyme pattern that saurus had just used. this happened a few times throughout the battle.

yeah they're both among the best freestyle battlers ever, but this was clearly prepped together.

was it??? i always wondered. this battle is fucking heat but it was taken last minute.. its either some of best freestyles in a written battle or they worked together is what i always thought

damn anybody else think they prepped together? I feel like if they didnt they both woulda advertise this battle more

(same thing with Caustic vs diz)

I've never understood why people insist on saying that two of the best freestylers ever had to write together to put on a legendary freestyle battle

Nah. That 1st round for Mac just sounded too good - lots of lines like "featherless penguins" either dont full rhyme or they dont make sense. If it was planned it would have been better... futhermore there were several times that he almost stumbled to find an apprpopiate word.

Another thing to consider is that these freestyle guys have lines ready that rhyme with certain sounds. "aken" or just "en" have so many rhymes. Mac prob just had that in reserve in his head and went when saurus said "mishapened")

If that really was pre-planned why would Mac write it so sloppy? He completely dicked down the internal rhyme on the third line plus the head line was in the middle of thesaurus's round so he had time to prepare.

Damn motherfuckers be usin time machines to travel forward in time to bite my posts

Regardless of whether it was planned or not, Saurus still came hard nh. I think we've all seen battlers shit the bed with much more than 24 hours notice, and he had some real hard hitting lines in there.

Battle was dope IMO

Next World Domination should have Mac Lethal vs Justice from Australia. Garunteed crazy ass rebuttals. That's obviously if they could ever get either of them to battle again

Eh, I think you are underestimating the power of written freestyles... like rhymes that dudes have been sitting on for a long time that rhyme with certain syllables.

Another thing to note is that 99% of the flips/rebuttals in this battle were from The Saurus and not Mac. Saurus is literally the GOAT when it comes to that shit.
