MF Doom wrote some of the most wacky and eccentric lyrics ever and he produced some of the most wacky and eccentric sounding beats ever, he truly was idiosyncratic. He leave's behind a tremendous legacy, "Operation Doomsday", "Madvillainy", "Mm...Food" are all classics. I also cherished Doom's work with the Monsta Island Czars. R.I.P.

I would definitely add KMD in there too. Little Sambo was a golden-era classic.

I like KMD (RIP Subroc & Zev Love X), definitely some of early 'bohemian' 'esoteric' lyricists, but I think "Operation: Doomsday" was MF Doom's apex as a producer and lyricist, which can probably be attributed to the fact that he was only 19-22 during KMD, and obviously by 1999, from a sonic perspective, production equipment was much more state of the art than the early 90s.

I feel you. When I listen to Operation Doomsday I often think that he doesn't know quite how to use his voice properly. He literally mumbles at many times in the album. But it is that aspect that resonates with a lot of people as it gives it this raw unpolished sound, much like a lot of the Wu's best is when it just sounded raw and thrown together. He probably has been better both lyrically and sonically, but Doomsday has an amazing feeling to it.
