My problem with written battles on a beat is the quality. Might as well just make dis tracks at that point. Why have two dudes write to two different beats and have them show up and both rap to something that isn't what they wrote for? There's already shit tons of audio issues with accapella and adding a beat that's feeding into the mics is just another variable for disaster.
Scribble/freestyle era was essentially written battles and we distanced ourselves from that shit for a reason.
I thought K shine was fire against Math on a beat but Math sucked in that battle
But yeah the biggest problem is that the production normally isn't great and it sounds bad. Maybe just as big of a problem tho is the fact that probably only 10 battlers would actually sound good. Not to mention how do you book a card of top tiers in a small room and recoupe/how do you make the sound clear enough for 1000 ppl in a big room to hear
Regardless if battles were on Beats all you haters of the swag God do realize you would be making Goodz the new goat of Battle Rap
It's definitely a format I'd like to see explored some more. Flow is my favorite feature a battler might have and we know half these dudes can't stay on rhythm for shit, let alone have ever been in a booth to begin with. I don't think it can be dismissed as "Just write diss tracks then" either cause that shit should be saved for when you've got a real problem with someone, and it's a lot more interesting when the two agree on beats to use for it which is what I think happens when leagues set these up.
