Things Grind Time did better than leagues today ???
These days some new jack dumb ass history revisionist will try to put a negative spin on Grind Time, but if you know what you're talking about GT actually did a lot of essential shit better than leagues do these days.
- Time - Battles were not 50 min... you could easily watch 2 battles a day while you eat or do some other shit, and it would only take half an hour. Also, there was never a big problem with the time length of people's rounds.
- Consistency - This one is a double edged sword. While you could always depend on GT for consistent content, by the end of it you had to weed through a ton of trash battles to find a good one. KOTD hasn't had an event in awhile and I know you have noticed their channel isn't drop consistent content currently.
- Regional Rivalries - Now days there is hardly any regional rivalries within leagues. That shit is exciting, it creates good content/blogs/build up. Not only did you have people in GT competing to be the best in their region, you also have regions competing to be better than the next. It just makes everything more dynamic. I've noticed there is a NYC vs DMV brewing with the new guys on URL, and I like that.
What do you guys think ?
What are some other things that GT did better than leagues now days ???

They pioneered shit, for sure.
Definitely agree with the regional rivalries which I think URL is trying to revive (DMV vs NY is supposedly trying to be pushed)

Every battle got the same treatment (main page) which means there were some good bad battles that were entertaining.

They also had a much better atmosphere. Battles aren't a stage show. The pit/jovial atmosphere like the Bunker is much better. URL has really fucked up some of the basic premises of battling.

The pit and how close the battlers were together was definitely part of it. It's pretty hard to be raw when you are on a massive stage and your opponent is a couple of meters away

No pressure in GT. It was more fun and about entertaining people. Not all serious and how many times you can reference a pack of skittles in a battle saying it 3 different ways. Battles were 60 second rounds with an OT so you prepped about the same. All battles were judged. Records were stored. No money was involved until Mr ATLA got involved with that. Drect is cool as hell. Everyone was watching through Rapmusic.com. Battles on the beach. All events would get 150-200 people minimum it felt like. Tons of cyphers and parties. People just wanted to rap and have fun. No one cared about drama. Felt like Lush hosted every battle and Avo edited every battle.

The best part of GT was all of the battles with hilarious moments that were released on their main page. Just the strange moments.
XT's girlfriend when Chase called her a hooker from Reno at BOTB responding on cam loudly...I'm not from Reno!
People battling at parks on a beach.
I remember Subverse's dog walking through a battle and him petting it vs Reverse Live.
D Lor and I were in a 2 v 2 freestyle battle in a barbershop in Denver Colorado that got released.
Grind Time North...
The Midwest Models...
Mike Flamez picking his nose on camera and rolling it....
Just hoping Tank Lipp finishes his rounds...
Tons and tons of multis....
Today leagues are way more organized. KOTD has a very tight release schedule which is great for artists who promote their battles. Quality control is good and bad to me. Sometimes I like to see some random one off stuff but I can always find those somewhere else.
We can just remember GT for what it was and it was an era in battle rap that helped set the trend for today.
On to the next one.

Yeah some people had unique styles but lets be honest only the backpacker type style was dominant/rated. Any street style cat/gunbar rapper was instantly shunned for being fake.
Grindtime was good at not taking itself so seriously (was of course one of the many reasons for it's downfall) URL is like the guy who always compares everything to being in jail.

GT was the melting pot. Usually ends up being shady business wise but it was kinda the type of league you would want. Literally pioneered damn near everything because it was so diverse
