I hope Ganik does stop throwing events in Toronto tbh.

Maybe keep WD in Toronto cause it also kinda serves as the anniversary event and all that. But move Blackout somewhere else. I dunno how it works logistically and im sure it's kinda easier for them to plan when they're close to where the event will be held but that's far outweighed by:

1) The Toronto crowd sucking. Lacking any knowledge of battle rap in general.
2) Venues in Toronto are kinda shit to deal with iirc (think they've said this at some point)
3) For blackout especially, the majority of the card ain't from Canada...flights should be cheaper within the states and less worry about customs (though that's been okay the past few events).

Not sure where you'd wanna do it. Boston is great but you might oversaturate especailly since Blackout is close to MASS (assuming this continues). Avo is doing his thing with Bunker in Cali, but maybe there's room for a big event there since BOTB ain't really happening. They also have staff down there so makes shit a bit easier to coordinate. It's also an appealing location, especially during February/March when a lot of these battlers are living in places that get shit on with snow and are freezing.

Kinda disagree with the "they're spoiled and seen it all" shit though. that'd imply they should be seasoned.

TheFinalWord is not the worst person
DBD used to say how good the Toronto crowd was, I wonder what changed with this.

The whole philly, nyc eastern corridor should be the best place to ensure filling the events but as a whole I think California will be the best option to do the Blackout type events. The Canadian talent is I'm sure a small variable for their decision making, the staff however being in Toronto would play an enormous part of it.

A couple more mass type events and then we move down the blackout card.

World Dom will remain in Toronto.

.
well, historically Toronto has been a good crowd for the DBD types. They like that style. That's what they were conditioned to like actually, because that was largely what KOTD was about in the early days. The majority of the popular battlers in the early KOTD days were the grind time/wrc types. Then when KOTD started to bring in more international talent, that's what they brought in. Dumbfoundead/Saurus were the first two big name guys to come up to Toronto. Look at WD1, which they note in this video as being the good crowd...you got shit like DBD vs. Madchild, etc.

If you want an example, watch Loe Pesci vs. Syco...the crowd was enraged when Pesci won that battle.

Talkback is actually a pretty good representation of a Toronto battle rap crowd.

What happened though is battling gravitated away from that style over time...it became more "serious". This is when KOTD started booking more "SMACK" talent. This is when the crowds started to become gradually worse. Despite the fact that the cards were generally better, they just do not fuck with that. I remember being at events when that trend first started and you'd overhear people outside who you could tell had no clue who some of these SMACK dudes were, despite them being a far bigger name then people they did know.

So yeah, it's not so much it being a different crowd (the non-battle rap fans were a big problem at BO3 when they advertised Drake being there though), so much as it being the events have a different tone to them now and it's not necessarily their thing.

tl;dr, they're unseasoned as fuck

This is accurate.

I feel bad for KOTD staff because they genuinely work hard to put on successful events.....you just can't change the demographics of Southern Ontario.

Pat does make some good points about the benefit of traveling away from home. I wouldn't mind seeing BO happen in another place besides Toronto.
